Bayelsa: Oshiomhole blows hot, says PDP candidate cannot be sworn in

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has declared vehemently that, although abiding by the rule of law of the nation and submitting to the Supreme Court’s judgment regarding the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Bayelsa state, David Lyon, no other party in the November 16 election is fit to replace APC.

This declaration was made by the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, Thursday at a press conference held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The party posited that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties that contested are unqualified to replace David Lyon because none had one-quarter of the total votes as required by the Nigerian electoral law.

The party said it will explore all legal means possible in resolving the matter, citing a similar case in 1999 in Bauchi state, witnessing the disqualification of the then Governor-elect, Adamu Muazu after the court found his deputy unqualified.

The Supreme Court earlier nullified Bayelsa State’s gubernatorial election seeing the emergence of David Lyon and his running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo on November 16, 2019, and ruled that the first runnerup be declared the winner.

The court ruled the nullification after finding Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, the deputy governor candidate unqualified following an alleged certificate forgery.
